Malevolent Whispers:About
From Malevolent Whispers
Malevolent Whispers (MW) is a MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) who's primary focus is not in the hack'n'slash aspects like many other muds, but in a more developed style of play. There is still a considerable amount of hacking and slashing to be had. But MW exhibits several more evolved features.
Quest Engine
- Support for questing in a way similar to WoW. Setting up quests in a MySQL Database for quick access without wasting memory, storable rewards awarded on completion, run through progs on mobs, support for a quest journal for players to keep track of current and completed quests.
Fame/Reputation System
- Support for a fame or a reputation for each faction/nation. Players gain fame/rep with a nation by doing things in that nation such as quests, etc. Fame influences several things making it worthwhile for players to increase.
Vampire/Lycanthrope System
- Vampires and Lycanthropes are races on MW, and are not pickable at creation, you have to be infected to become one, and certain benefits and detriments will become available upon changing.
Elemental Enchantments
- Ability to apply an elemental damage bonus to weapons, or other affect to armor. Can be temporary or permanent. Support for flags for items that require specific enchantments to pick up or use.
Infusion System
- System enabling players to fight toward elemental forges, and become infused with the power of that element for a period of time. Benefits are superb, and vary with the element. Forges are guarded by incredibly tough mobs and only the person who lands the killing blow will be eligible to obtain the infusion.
Lockers/Vaults System
- System allowing players to purchase/rent a locker/vault that will allow them to store items in a safe place until they can afford their own house to store things in.
Banking System
- Support for players to obtain a bank account to store their money in. Supports deposits, withdrawals, transfers, balances, and currency exchanges. Accounts will also be available for nations, clans, guilds, orders, churches, and possibly more.
Eclipse System
- Support will be added to the calendar code, and possibly other systems to account for solar/lunar rotation around Eridanus. Eclipses will affect Vampires and Lycans in odd ways, and will be able to be referenced from progs.
Arena System
- Enchanced arena system that will include support for multiple battlefields, possibly even closing off certain areas for use as arenas. Will also have support for Freeze Tag, and Capture the Flag games as well.
Tradeskills System
- Level based system of crafting based heavily off of Final Fantasy XI. Available crafts will be:
Alchemy, Bonecrafting, Cooking, Enchanting, Fishing, Gathering, Goldsmithing , Leatherworking, Mining, Skinning, Smithing , Tailoring , Woodworking.
Housing System
- System for players to have their own houses built. Will be completely automated by the code. Will support purchasing of mobs/objects for their houses.
Treasure System Enhancements
- The Random treasure system will be upgraded with better gem generation, increased socketing abilities, better affects on generated armor/weapons, expansion to types of things socketable. And the addition of "chest" items that will generate random items based on value set on the item, and level of the item.
Combat System
- Combat has undergone a massive revision. See Combat for full details.
Magic System
- Magic has undergone a massive revision as well, see Magic for more details.
Seafaring System
- System in place to allow players to buy/rent ships to sail on the open oceans of Eridanus. Supports naval combat, piracy, and upgrading of ships once bought.
Conquest System
- Conquest is a system of capturing and controlling regions for your nation to increase their resources, and attempt to claim the first spot on the Conquest Rankings for the tally period.
Nations System
- Instead of the standard clans/guilds/orders on MUDs, MW focuses primarily on the Nations. There are still clans and orders for those who are looking for those, but most of the higher end systems deal with the Nations.
